Occurrence data of Skipper butterflies (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae) at the Zoology Museum, Makerere University.
Latest version published by Department of Zoology, Entomology and Fisheries Sciences on Jun 26, 2019
The data presented here is a portion of the Lepidoptera collection housed in the Zoology Museum at Makerere University. It presents the species of Hesperiidae (skipper butterflies) that occur in selected forest reserves, including three national parks, of Uganda.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 374 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Project Data
The project, ‘Assessment of Lepidoptera pollinator species diversity data in East Africa’ aims to improve our knowledge of the diversity and status of insect pollinators in East Africa. Specimen data of three families (Papilionidae, Hesperiidae, Sphingidae) held in selected museums in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda is being digitized and published under the GBIF framework. Field surveys of the three families will improve our understanding of the diversity and ecological status of the three families under a range of land-use intensities.

Funding | The project is funded by the JRS Biodiversity Foundation (http://jrsbiodiversity.org/). Project implementation is by the National Museums of Kenya in partnership with Makerere University Department of Zoology, Entomology & Fisheries Sciences and the National Museum of Tanzania. |
Study Area Description | Dry preserved specimens held in the insect collection of the Zoology Museum at Makerere University, Uganda |
Design Description | Data were taken from specimen labels and entered into MS Excel sheets. Records were subsequently formatted and validated prior to publication through the IPT of the National Museums of Kenya |
