This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Dados Sobre o Projeto

Species dataset of freshwater snails (Gastropoda and Bivalve) housed at the historical records of the Zoological Collection of National Museums of Kenya (NMK) in Nairobi updated with information from literature is provided to present the checklist of freshwater snails of Kenya. A total of 57 species of freshwater snails (gastropods) are presented accompanied with information on conservation status and countries of distribution. Two bivalves’ datasets are also presented. Among the 59 species of molluscs presented, the freshwater snails’ collections at the National Museums of Kenya recorded 24 species while the rest of the species information was mobilized from literature. Among the species names mobilized from the collection of the National Museums of Kenya, at least 7 species comprise of material from other countries and not Kenyan fauna. This suggest that the Kenyan freshwater snails (gastropods) comprise of about 50 species. One species is an alien invasive. At least four species are listed Critically Endangered and four others Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened animals. Majority are though listed as Least Concern. The project was funded by the European Union through GBIF to mobilize freshwater snails information housed at Zoological collection of the National Museums of Kenya and literature.
