Point count data of Birds of Arabuko-Sokoke Forest (2017)

最新版本 由 National Museums of Kenya 發佈於 Mar 15, 2019 National Museums of Kenya

This is a record of bird species recorded in Arabuko – Sokoke Forest. The data was collected using point count method of data collection for a number of days from 18 – 24 June 2017. Point count data in birds is mostly used for estimating population sizes and for detecting changes in population sizes of birds. At times this method is used to determine species diversity and prepare checklists. This data is also made up of a small list of owl species recorded in the forest specifically in Cyanometra Forest of the Arabuko – Sokoke Forest.

Data Records

The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 86 records. 1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

  • Event (核心)
    86
  • Occurrence
    2228

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

計畫資料

The purpose of this project is to digitalize all data of both flora and fauna recorded in Arabuko-Sokoke Forest and adjacent surroundings making the data easily accessible to conservationists and researchers. By being the largest and least disturbed coastal forest in East Africa, the forest is home to a number of endemic and rare bird species.

研究區域描述 Arabuko-Sokoke Forest lies within co-ordinates 030 20’ S and 390 50’E. The forest is made up of three distinct habitat types namely. Cynometra Forest, Brachystegia Woodland and Mixed Forest. Cyanometra forest is dominated by Cynometra webberi and Manilkara sulcata tree species. The brachystegia woodland is dominated by Brachystegia spiciformis while in the mixed forest the common tree species are Afzelia quanzensis (formerly dominant), Hymenaea verrucosa, Combretum schumannii and Manilkara sansibarensis and the cycad Encephalartos hildebrandtii. These distinct habitats vary depending on the soil type and rainfall patterns. A number of seasonal wetlands are found in the forest including the Arabuko Swamp.
研究設計描述 The data was collected using point count data collection method. The data was collected for five days from 0600 hours to 1000hours. Data on the owls was collected for one night at the Cyanometra Forest for a period of two hours from 1900 hours to 2100hours. The list consist of species recorded within the boundaries of the forest and the adjacent environs. The species were approved before being added to this list. The data was then aligned to the Darwin Core Standards before publishing through the IPT at the National Museums of Kenya, Nairobi
